About Legacy
Legacy grew from the ashes of World War One. In the trenches of the Western Front during World War I, a soldier said to his dying mate “I’ll look after the missus and kids”. This became known as The Promise – and it is still kept today.
At present, Legacy supports over 40,000 partners and children of our veterans. Financial, emotional, social, and developmental support is provided for the families in our care. Together with our staff, volunteers and supporters, we are committed to empowering our veterans’ families, to grow and thrive, despite their adversity and loss.
This year in 2023, Legacy commemorates 100 years of service to the families of Australian Defence Force members who have given their life or health in service to Australia, as well as the efforts of countless volunteers who have supported them throughout grief and hardship. We are proudly marking this milestone with The Legacy Centenary Torch Relay 2023, presented by Defence Health.
